Question about HTML forms... [Jul. 20th, 2005|11:52 pm]
Website Addicts Anon
Here's the deal...

I wnt to make a page that looks like this page... and when someone hits "Submit, it e-mails the stuff to my e-mail address, AND takes them to a second page.

I'm having difficulties getting it to work right, as FrontPage is enjoying its moment of being a pain. (I know, I know... people hate FrontPage...) And I'm not sure why it's putting "[FrontPage Save Results Component]" at the top of the form, either...

Can anyone help me on this?

OH... and does anyone have a way that I can REMOVE the "Date and Time" field and replace it with some kind of coding that will automatically "attach" a date and time that it was submitted? Just a random question...

Anyways... any help would be appriciated!

Soap Box Reviews [Jun. 30th, 2005|06:15 pm]

[Current Mood |calmcalm]

I've started a review site, but I need more people to help with reviews. I am but one person. You can either go to http://soapbox.vampyrehaven.net and fill out the application, of leave a comment here in this post if you wish to become a reviewer at this site.

1) You must have a good grasp on web design, both graphically and coding.
2) You must be able to give constructive criticism without being mean.
3) You must prove you know what you’re doing by leaving a link to a site in your application (or comments).
4) You must be able to give cohesive reviews. If you can’t talk about it intelligently, then you can’t tell others what is wrong and how best to fix it.
5) Reviewing takes time. If you don’t have it, don’t offer it. There’s no sense in wasting both of our time.

When you leave your site, I will go to W3C and validate your coding (be it CSS, HTML, XHTML, or the like). I will allow a certian amount (and type) of errors in coding, because, honestly, not many people go and actively validate their coding.

Also, blogs and journals do not count as websites. I know, I'm using a blog for the soapbox site, but that is ease of use and posting by multipule reviewers.

Any other questions or comments, feel free to ask. =)

An easier way to do this? [Jun. 12th, 2005|02:03 pm]
Website Addicts Anon

I have been working on a major update to Bodice Ripper, my fiction archive. Right now, I copy and paste my info into a template each time. The problem with this is that if something in the menu changes or I change the banner at the top, I have to change it on every page. I have a lot of pages.

Now, I've read about include files, but can I use them with Geocities? Is there another way of doing this? Frames? Tables? Something else?

I have another webhost I might be able to use, but the thought of moving everything scares me. Plus, I'm not sure what I can do with them. I'll research it as a second option.

So, can anybody help?

New Layout Is Up [May. 27th, 2005|07:35 pm]
Website Addicts Anon

[Current Mood |confusedconfused]

I've got a new layout for my site Lilac Haze. Being that its a new layout I finally finished working on after a.. oh.. say... 5 month break, I'm worried that there are some things wrong with it.

I discovered that I don't have a way for people to contact me if needbe, so I added the contact area at the bottom of the mainpage. It's not pretty, but it was added as a second thought after I uploaded everything.

So, I guess, here are the things I want:

- Criticisms (constructive only, please), or ideas on how to make things run smoother (you'll understand when you hit the avatars area).
- A Counter! Okcounter is dead. And I've tried various other ones, but the only ones that will actually work with my site are already full on the number of users they can host (dodocounter, bandwidth), or advertise dating services as a dual function to the write.doc file, so if you remove it, your counter doesn't get updated (coolcounters.com, which is sad because it has some nice counters.). I'm hosted, so I don't have a clue where the perl file is, so cgi counters are out, and I'm a little confused on how to do php-based image counters. Help, or a link to a tutorial would be GREATLY appreciated. It also needs to be MySQL-less, since I've got no clue where that is too.
- I'm considering a tagboard, probably for the area under the affiliates. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks ya'll, so much. :3

Help Please [Apr. 24th, 2005|04:53 pm]

Ok I know I am missing a little bit of code but I am not sure what!

I run victim_effect for the band, and I got the music up there however every time you click on any link and go to a new page it restarts the song which could get VERY annoying. So I was wondering what code I have to use to make sure that it is only on the entry pages. My other thought was getting a player of some kind embedded into the site but I am not sure how to do this. Also any ideas on how or where I could add a "turn player off" button?

PS yeah I know I suck at HTML!

Hi guys and gals.....

I was originaly looking for a comunity to offer advice on somthing, but the bio write up apeals to me!!

too manay sites to update!!! yeah... 125 at last count...

most are just dead in the water...

a few are just to bring in revenue, google adds slut, thats what I am!

a few just for fun!! Buffy loveres huh!! I wish I had the time to update my buffy site... I was pulling 30k hits a month at its peak.. but the database died, and I couldn't get the code to recompile with the new version of the DB, so It sort of sits there dead...

anyway.. back to that question.....

I have a page that I want to have a wee chat window on it.. preferably, no java, or active stuff... so I guess we are into html, javascript, or dhtml????? anyway, all the ones I have found out and aboput on script sites, etc..
all have a server refresh, and for the rest of the page to do that, is just a pain....

so I talk to x.. I submit, it refreshes...

but for me to get x talking to me, it would have to refresh loads of times just to check its happened...

Fra,mes I hear someone cry.... That way I just refresh one wee bit of the screen...

and thats exactly how most of these scripts seem to do it....

any one got any other ideas??

can I refresh just a div??
or just a tables content..
and some way without that anoying click, IE seems to do.. and i knpow the settings let you turn it off, but not a great thing to have to tell my users,.,!

Its like writeing to my great aunt... sorry, I went on a bit!

New member with a question [Dec. 30th, 2004|01:24 pm]

Hi, my name is Kristen. I have a couple websites of my own and right now I'm working on one for my sister. I'm familiar with HTML but nothing much more advanced than that yet. So can anyone tell me how to disable right clicking on a website? My sister doesn't want her music files stolen. They are copyrighted but we'd still like to disable the option of someone else saving them.
